Jira Webhooks
Project management by Atlassian. Receive events for issues, sprints, boards, and project changes.
Connecting Jira to Hookbase
Create a source in Hookbase first — it gives you an ingest URL to paste into Jira. Then:
- 1Go to Jira → Settings → System → Webhooks (admin required)
- 2Click "Create a webhook" and paste your Hookbase ingest URL
- 3Select the events (issue created, updated, etc.)
- 4Optionally add a JQL filter to scope the events
- 5Consider adding a secret query parameter for basic authentication
Signature verification
Jira does not sign its webhooks with an HMAC scheme, so a signing secret on the source would have nothing to verify. Use a custom source with no secret, and keep the ingest URL itself hard to guess.
How Jira secures them instead: Jira Cloud webhooks do not support signature verification. Use IP allowlisting or a secret query parameter.
Jira event types
7 of the events people route most often. Hookbase accepts every event Jira sends, whether or not it is listed here.
jira:issue_created
An issue was created
jira:issue_updated
An issue was updated
jira:issue_deleted
An issue was deleted
comment_created
A comment was added to an issue
sprint_started
A sprint was started
sprint_closed
A sprint was closed
board_created
A board was created
What a Jira webhook looks like
A jira:issue_created payload. Hookbase stores the raw body exactly as it arrived, so this is also what you get back on a replay.
